I’m so excited that last month’s Snow White inspired styled shoot has been featured on Le Magnifique’s blog.  A couple weeks ago I nervously submitted some images to Le Magnifique in hopes of being approved for publication.  Much to my joy, a couple days later I was pleasantly surprised by an email notifying me of acceptance.

Yeah, I did the happy dance.  It was a great moment.;-)    Enjoy, and I hope that it’s the first of many for Charlotte Tittle Photography!

Congrats class of 2012! [VA Senior Photographer]

I can’t believe that day is coming.  This Saturday, Kent and Kelly will each don a cap and gown and walk across the stage at Old Dominion University to accept their undergraduate degrees.  I can’t believe it, I really can’t.  You see, I first met Kent when he was probably about 11 or 12 years old (a whopping decade ago).  I was a young Marine who’d just started working at my first duty station in Quantico and new to military life.  I’d met his father at work.  Everyone referred to him as “Mr. Ferriss”, the “nice guy over there”.  I won’t go into all the details, but I’ll always be indebted to Jay Ferriss for teaching me a thing or two about the American dream and entrepreneurial spirit (among other things).  I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him and his wife (I’m getting teary eyed thinking about that part of our relationship so I’m going to save the rest of it for another post sometime).  I don’t remember the exact moment I’d met Jay, but I do remember how taken I was with his kindness and willingness to share any knowledge he had in such a “dog eat dog” environment.

A few weeks (maybe even a few days) later, I found myself at his house meeting his family for the first time.  I’ll never forget this picture in my head: I was driving down their street and there was a little kid in the driveway tearing it up with his skateboard.  I remember thinking “whoa, he’s really good”.  Turns out, he was in the driveway I was turning into.  He saw me turning in and rears his head back to yell “Daaaaaaddddd!” I was greeted by friendly smiles from Jay and his wife Dawn.  They welcomed me in with open arms and I remember Dawn beaming with pride and joy when she talked about both her sons.  We visited frequently from then on and Kent would always come bounding in, skateboard in hand (and as the years went on, soccer ball under his arm…and then eventually Kelly on his arm).

Fast forward 10 years later, and here we are. Kent’s and his “squeeze” (Kelly, his high school sweetheart and a wonderful addition to Kent’s life) as Jay’s always referred to her, are graduating from college!  Now, I have to add something about Kent and Kelly here.  I’ve come to love Kelly as a friend because not only is she tremendous fun to be with, but she and Kent are like peas and carrots.  As corny as it sounds, it’s so true.  You would think that a couple their age would be out all the time and getting into some sort of shenanigans on a regular basis, but that isn’t the case with these two.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure they have their good times but when they’re home spending time with friends and family, if you didn’t SEE how young they are you’d think they were a middle aged couple.  When I visit I typically find them sitting on the sofa with the Ferriss family dogs (horses, I should say….they’ve got two lovey dovey pit bulls who would probably sooner hug you to death than rip your head off) watching their evening “programs” or rifling through a catalog together.  It’s really funny to watch them and Dawn and I always have a good laugh at their expense (if you can call it that).;)

I can’t help but to feel proud like a big sister watching her little bro take the next step in entering a big scary world with confidence that he’s going to do AWESOME.  I’ve watched Kent grow from an eager adolescent to a confident young man and every time he’s faced some type of adversity, he’s always conquered it with little to no trouble (maybe not “no” trouble, but he always made it seem so easy!).  I can’t wait to see how Kent and Kelly each progress over the next 10 years.

Congrats, Kent and Kelly.  Here’s to a new chapter in your lives!

Lots of love,

Char

Sweet 16

Last week, I had the pleasure of photographing miss Julia and some of her friends for a timelessly lovely ballet shoot.  I first met Julia when you would look at her and still consider her to be a “little girl” (if I were to be completely truthful, we called her a mini version of her mother.  She was so cute!).  Now, she walks into the room and you can’t help but to admire her beauty and be taken by her long and lean ballet figure.  *Sigh*…it was like yesterday I first met her in the Starbucks off route 3 and she bounced in with her little pink leotard after ballet practice.  My how time flies…

While shooting, we played a variety of today’s boy bands on an IPOD to serve as inspiration.  As I watched them swoon over their youthful (apparently British) voices, I  couldn’t help but to think about how fleeting these days could be.  You know, the days when the biggest worry we have is how we’re going to score concert tickets in a couple weeks, or what kind of pizza to order for the upcoming birthday party.  I envy them and love them for it all at the same time.  Yet Julia also has a kind of wisdom that a lot of teenagers don’t.  I won’t go into why because I’m going to save that for another post some other day.  Maybe some other year, or maybe never (yeah, it’s that deep).  Let’s just say, for a 16 year old girl who lives in the world that she does she has such a calming wisdom within that bubbly youthful spirit of hers.  I love her for that.

Happy birthday, Julia.

xoxo

A growing family [Fredericksburg Family Photographer]

I was so thrilled when Melissa of Melissa Arlena Photography told me she was expecting, and even more thrilled when she asked me to shoot her announcement session for her.  What an honor!  I was so flattered that another photographer (especially one as super awesome as her) would ask me to capture such an important time in their lives for them.

So I read her post this morning when she published it on her blog and couldn’t help to get a little teary-eyed.  You see, her husband is deploying at the end of this week.  As a veteran myself, I know how difficult it is when your spouse or loved one deploys to another country for months and months (sometimes years) at a time.  So as I was shooting the session this past weekend, I got a little teary eyed (shh….don’t tell her.  She doesn’t know!) as I watched them laugh together, hug each other, and hold each other.  As I watched them from behind my lens I could tell how strong their love is, and how determined they were to remain close while he is gone.  And to think, at the end of THIS week, she’d be hugging him tight and kissing him so long for the last time in MONTHS.

Melissa- in the short time I’ve known you I’ve learned what a strong woman you are.  Every time you talk about your husband, I see the love and resolve in your eyes.  I know that you’ll be just fine, and it seems that you know that too.  If you ever need a shoulder to cry on, or an ear to hear you vent, you know you can always come to me, girl!

David – Godspeed as you start this next chapter in your military career, and in your life!  Please know that Melissa is surrounded by some awesome friends in the photography community, and in the military community.  I hope that your journey is a safe one, and that you’re home in time to welcome your new addition!

xoxo,

Char

St. Patrick’s day celebration of love [VA wedding photographer]

This year during St. Patricks day, I had the opportunity to second shoot for Melissa of Melissa Arlena Photography.  It was a perfect day to celebrate love and start off the wedding season with a bang.  The weather was beautiful, everybody was in a fantastic mood, and the happy couple was so in love.  You couldn’t help but to smile around them.  Here’s to a wonderful start to wedding season!

The bagpiper was a surprising and special touch that day.  What a fitting addition for the St. Pats wedding.  Osprey’s Landing provided beautiful grounds for the happy couple’s celebration.  The floral details were also so beautiful.  I’ve long admired the work of Amanda at Anthomatic, and she did a lovely job (as she always does).  It was so sweet to see two father daughter relationships.  While the father of the bride celebrated the marriage of his daughter, the groom’s daughter also celebrated the addition of a mother in her life.
